 Arts

There are a variety of opportunities for students to be involved in the arts at Mother of Mercy Academy, whether they play an instrument, sing, or act.

Beginner and Advanced Band
Towards the end of 3rd grade, students are given the opportunity to choose an instrument if they would like to participate in the band program. Instruments include flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and drums.  Students in 4th grade are members of Beginner Band. Students in 5th through 8th grade are members of Advanced Band. Students meet with their instructor to rehearse once a week during the school day. In December and May, the band participates in a combined concert with other Catholic schools in the area.

Choir
The choir at Mother of Mercy Academy is made up students from Grades 3 through 8. The choir sings at school masses, which take place every Thursday morning. The choir also has the opportunity to occasionally sing at a Sunday mass as well as various other special events throughout the year.

Musical Theater
MMA Musical Theater group performs a Broadway musical in the month of May. Following a formal audition process, open to students in 3rd-8th grade, rehearsals begin yearly in January, and students receive five months of instruction from our accomplished, professional directors. The shows, performed on the big stage at Baldwin High School, rival some of the area's high school musicals.

Middle school students also have the opportunity to participate in the stage crew, helping to create sets, costumes, and work backstage during the musical.
